Despite being repeatedly displaced since the events of February 2011, True Grit hair spa is still going from strength to strength when it comes to competitions and in-salon training.
On Sunday 22nd June, we once again featured significantly in the winner’s line-up at the prestigious NZRAH Regional Hair of the Year Awards. Style Director, Haley Scandrett, took out first place in both the Urban Colour Open Event AND The Urban Day Style, as well as coming 3rd in the Urban Cut category.
Apprentice, Sammy Downes’ hard work paid off as she took out the Newcomer Urban Cut category, with her men’s cut.
Jacqui’s tireless energy put into the next generation of hair stylists is definitely reaping the benefits as she offers these young apprentices a solid foundation for a guaranteed successful future in the industry. This is evident everyday with the opportunities she offers in salon, with rigorous training programmes, along with tireless encouragement, motivation and support when it comes to industry education training seminars and professional development.
This is reiterated again as another of True Grit’s talented apprentices was selected to compete in the World Skills competition in Hamilton. Ashlee Van Wijk came third in the regional competition and is the first competitor with that placement to be invited to compete nationally due to the high points she scored within the first round. Jacqui as always was close at her heels in support, traveling up to Hamilton to offer encouragement at this fantastic event. (Update: Ashlee came 2nd at the World Skills competition!).
