how to wash your hair properly

Washing your hair seems like an easy enough task, but understanding the correct techniques can greatly affect the quality, bounce and shine of your hair. Here are a few tips and watch-outs we put together to help you get it right.

  1. Rinse first

As simple as this one sounds, rinse your hair for at least a minute and ensure your hair is thoroughly wet before applying shampoo. Use lukewarm water to help open your hair cuticles and remove any trapped dirt or oils.

  1. Shampoo and conditioner should be applied differently

Shampoo and conditioner have different purposes and need to be applied differently. Rather than lathering all over your hair, focus your shampoo on your scalp and your conditioner on the ends.

  1. Temperature matters

Hot showers can be damaging to your hair. They open up your cuticles dramatically and can weaken your roots.

  1. Finish with a cold water rinse

Rinsing with cold water helps close your hair cuticles and seal the moisture. Again, remember to rinse well to remove any shampoo and conditioner.
