Patty Wunder is our 2014 Queen of Referrals. After being told she won a year of free and fabulous hair, here’s what she had to say:

“What does it mean to me to receive another crown not made out of foil, but of referrals? There aren’t words actually!

I have been going to True Grit faithfully for 7+ years… Almost since I moved to New Zealand. As an ex-hairdresser, and a type A personality, I tend to be a bit picky, however the Gemini creative side of me likes change and trying new things…often! True Grit has always taken great care of me and Jen Finch knows what I like, dislike, get annoyed by, and won’t ever do again… So don’t ask.

True Grit feels like family.  Saying that, life hasn’t always been smooth sailing in the last 7 years and my partner will tell you, the first thing we address before I freak out, is how my hair will be paid for!  It is part of our monthly household budget… It has become part of my trademark and identity… And I preach True Grit wherever I go. So when Jacqui called me personally today (on my birthday no less) to tell me the news of winning a year of hair services…I almost cried a little!  But my initial thought was how excited my man would be!  AND HE WAS!  Right away he asked if they could groom our 3 Persian Cats!  That’s a whole other budget for hair!  We are a hair proud family.

I still can’t believe it… Something that is a necessity will now feel like a treat for a year!  The relief, the freedom to use that money for other things, and the feeling of satisfaction that people are listening when I tell them where to go… So to speak. I get stopped in stores, parking lots, at work, at the Women’s Expo, and everywhere in between by people wanting to know who does my hair. I always have cards available to hand out! There was even a joke at work that it took less than 10 minutes for me being at work for the 1st person to stop and talk about my hair! I just say if I had $100 deposited into my account from the universe every time someone complimented me on my hair, I’d never have to work again! Even after Jen does her work, I get to reap the compliments of it, so the fact that more people are trusting the amazing crew at True Grit because I ensure them they will be looked after, well… It seems like just the right thing to do doesn’t it!?
One last thing… I was taught that if you haven’t received a compliment on your hair in 6 weeks… It’s time for a change!  I know a great place!

“My hair is 10 times better than normal!”

 Hi Ashleigh, I just wanted to say a big thank you once again for the lovely pamper pack treatment I had with you yesterday. I am actually quite amazed at the difference in my hair this morning – much more so than yesterday. It feels really smooth, silky soft and bouncy – really lovely. I wasn’t too sure about the SteamPod at the time as I was a bit nervous of the heat so close to my skin (!), but together with the serums and treatments, the difference in my hair today is 10 times better than normal, it feels gorgeous!  When I come in next week for my colour I will also buy the split ends serum you recommended as I think that has really helped too.

Fundraising for Cure Kids

“A huge THANK YOU toTrue Grit for the kind donation of 10 vouchers for fundraising for Cure Kids Red Nose Day. Hundreds of children owe their lives to Cure Kids, but the only way we can keep doing this is by funding research to find the cures that will save lives. The Fulton Hogan Earthquake Rebuild Office was fundraising for this worthy cause by way of a morning tea, a raffle and an auction – with all proceeds going to Cure Kids. “I wanted to let you know how well the team looked after me a few weeks ago when Jen (my usual stylist) was off sick one Saturday morning.  I desperately needed my colour redone as I had a big work event the following week, so they agreed they could do the colour and I’d come back later for the cut when Jen was back on deck.

I was so impressed by how well the staff all worked together to help each other out and look after the customers. Sarah, Regan and Monica worked as such a great team, assisting each other where needed to get colours on and finished, and still managing to keep everything and everyone feeling relaxed and taken care of. Even though I’m sure they were doing a heap of juggling and thinking on their feet to cope with a busy client load on a day with at least one stylist off sick, this urgency never came through to the salon floor.
