There’s no denying it, we take hair very seriously here at True Grit, because beautiful colour and cuts are what we’re really passionate about!

To ensure we’re always getting the best possible result for you, we offer complimentary skin sensitivity and hair strand testing for all colour clients. Upon booking your colour appointment we’ll ask you to make a skin sensitivity/hair strand testing appointment for at least 48 hours before your appointment. It’s not compulsory but it’s strongly encouraged!

What does a Skin Sensitivity test involve?

  1. Your stylist will use a cotton bud to apply a thin layer of the raw colouring product on clean skin behind the right ear, reapplying 2 – 3 times.
  1. Once the dye is completely dry you’ll be allowed to leave the salon. Please DO NOT wash off.
  1. If, at any stage during this process you feel discomfort – stinging, itching, redness, swelling, remove product immediately.
  1. When you return to the salon we will assess your tested area, then proceed with your fabulous colour!!

Please also let us know if you have previously experienced a reaction to a hair colourant, or have a sensitive, itchy or damaged scalp.

What does a Hair Strand test involve?

  1. We take a piece of hair from underneath or another subtle location.
  2. We’ll then test it with our colourants to ensure your hair remains healthy and strong throughout the process and so we can be confident in your bespoke colour results! This also tests whether you have product build up/environmental chemicals that could react with the colourant and therefore damage your hair.
  3. An assessment will be made and the best course of action will be discussed with you on your journey to wonderfully coloured, healthy hair.
