We couldn’t be prouder of her journey and the incredible talent she brings to the salon. Let’s celebrate this amazing milestone and wish her all the success in the world! Georgia is also part of a new exciting worldwide programme as a Kérastase Care Coach. As a local educator of Kérastase products and treatments, Georgia can recommend the best products for your individual hair needs. We sat down to spill the tea with her.
TG: Hi Georgia, can you start by telling us about your background in hairdressing and how you ended up at True Grit?
Georgia: I’ve been training as a hairdresser for almost four years. I started out at Ara doing a six-month taste tester course to see if I liked it. Whilst I was doing that, I thought I might as well get a job in the industry, so I came to True Grit, had an interview with Jacqui, and got the job immediately. So that was good! Jacqui then gave me an apprenticeship in January 2021. I am now in my fourth year. I have completed all my Ara training and will be sitting my final assessment in September. At True Grit I’m the Head Technician and responsible for the colour work of the Senior Stylists as well as leading the apprentice team. I’m so excited to announce that on 30th July I’ll be accepting my own clients as a New Generation Stylist on the floor!
TG: How long does it take to become a fully qualified hairdresser?
Georgia: It takes anywhere between four and six years, depending on your passion and drive.
TG: You’ve been a Kérastase Ambassador, and now you’re a Kérastase Care Coach. When did you start working with the French brand?
Georgia: Last year, I started working as an Ambassador, which entailed ordering and posting about the brand across True Grit’s socials. Being a Kérastase Care Coach is another level of responsibility and an entirely new role for me. I am one of two Care Coaches in Christchurch and was selected by the Kérastase team for this prestigious position in early 2024.
So far, the position has taken me to Auckland twice for some exclusive luxury training, which has been really cool. It’s exciting because I have developed a strong knowledge of Kérastase’s products, the ingredients and how they perform on the hair. I’m kind of a ‘know-all’ for the stylists in the salon. Each month, I focus on educating True Grit’s clientele on social media on a particular Kérastase collection and how to use it. I make myself available to the team for prescribing products to clients. To be fair, the team has great knowledge of the Kéastase range.
TG: How do you get selected to be a Kératase Care Coach?
Georgia: I was invited to be a Care Coach by the New Zealand Kérastase team. I have a lot of good people around who can advocate for me.
Is the goal of getting to Paris one day to visit the head office?
That would be very nice!
TG: What is your favourite Kérastase collection at the moment?
Georgia: It would definitely have to be the new stunning Premiere range. It’s their newest collection, and the technology behind it is amazing. I haven’t seen anything like it. It’s the most ultra repairing, strengthening and decalcifying range. It’s great for those with hard water because often calcium is something that can damage hair. It’s awesome that we now have hair products that have such incredible technology in them.
TG: What are you most excited about as you start on the floor as a fully qualified New Generation stylist?
Georgia: I am excited to have something of my own, my own clients, my own community of people who want to come and see me for their hair. I’m looking forward to creating a little brand inside a brand here at True Grit. I can’t wait!
